THERAPY

Therapy is useful in any life stage you may be in, to understand and process any difficult adjustments, experiences, or promote self-growth. Therapy is sought for different reasons and can be useful in supporting:

Anxiety/ panic, Depression/ low mood, Difficulty managing your emotions, Experienced a traumatic event, Seeking personal growth or meaning in life, Recent life change (e.g. marriage, divorce, loss, parenthood, retirement), Difficulties with satisfying relationships (family, social, intimate, occupational)

PLAY THERAPY

Children experience life very differently from adults. They often do not have the cognitive ability to fully process difficult experiences independently. They also lack the vocabulary and verbal expressive abilities that adolescents and adults have. Hence, children use play as their natural means of communication

Therefore, play therapy allows the child to continue to communicate his/her feelings and experiences in a safe, non-threatening environment through a medium of play which comes natural for a child. Children are brought into a special room filled with toys where they can, recreate situations and events that may be affecting them and together with the psychologist, work through these issues. Some issues dealt with in therapy include but are not limited to:

Play therapy assists children in understanding their emotions better and helps them to deal with difficult feelings or traumatic events in a healthy developmental manner. This allows children to be more assertive, confident and more easily able to adapt to difficult situations and events.

INDIVIDUAL / ADULT THERAPY

Counselling/ Therapy is in essence one person trying to understand, connect with, support, and positively influence another person. While some clients need sophisticated insights or technical interventions, we know (empirically) that many clients mainly improve due to the (at times hard earned) therapeutic relationship, as well as the subtly but deeply impactful therapist-client interactions. At EduPsyC we strive to establish a trusting and authentic therapy relationship and we aim to offer a warm, open minded, empathic approach. Some of the areas that we are trained to support you in include but are not limited to:

Career counselling focuses on guidance and facilitation in decision making regarding study and career choice. The process often creates awareness in clients of relevant information, sources, or channels to support decisions and career development. It also includes identifying strengths as well as weaknesses that influence one’s performance or behaviour. The process usually involves a minimum of 3 counselling sessions.

THERAPY

Adolescent Therapy

Adolescence can be a challenging stage in life. With the many biological changes that happen, teens may have multiple social and emotional encounters to manage during this time. Individual therapy helps explore any difficulties in a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental way.
